Brief History The Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi started as a College of Technology in April, 1978 through Edict No. 6 of that year. Its administrative Office was at West of Mines, Jos while classes went on at Kuru (near NIPSS). On the 14th April, 1980, the College of Technology was upgraded to a Polytechnic. It thus became known as Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi. The Polytechnic presently operates on two Campuses namely: 1. Main Campus situated at the permanent Site at Heipang and 2. The Jos Campus situated in Hwolshe, Jos. GOALS OF THE INSTITUTION The goals for establishing the institution includes the following: a. To provide diverse instruction, training and research in technology, the sciences and the humanities, as well as other spheres of learning which may from time to time be approved by the Council. b. To provide courses of in-service instruction for members of the Public Service in the state, and to the extent that the Council thinks fit, courses of the like nature for persons unconnected with any of the public services. c. To promote the development of local technology and the adoption of appropriate technologies. VISION OF THE INSTITUTION To be a reputable technological institution committed to students’ success in areas of entrepreneurship and self-reliance through professional skills training to the highest level possible and exploiting opportunities for conducting practical research in closed collaboration with industries, organisations and the community using qualified and motivated workforce in a conducive environment. THE MISSION OF THE INSTITUTION To serve students at the undergraduate, graduate and continuing education levels; in engineering technology, the sciences, humanities and professional programs. We work to develop the broader community’s intellectual, cultural, economic and human resources. Facilitated by our innovative faculty, dedicated staff and supportive campus environment.
